Commonly Asked Questions
I’m not ready to commit to the certificate program. Do I have
to register for the certificate program at the same time as the
institute(s)?
No. You have the option to enroll in the certificate program at a later date.
When do I have to apply to the certificate program?
You can take up to six credits before you are required to apply to the program.
Do I have to attend the institute(s) to do the certificate program?
Of the two institute(s), only ED 561: Teaching and Learning in Extended Learning Environments is a requirement of the program. As a hybrid course, it provides you the opportunity to meet others in the field, build relationships, and get hands-on experience with the research-based approaches and techniques that make OST learning unique and effective.
Can I transfer credits into the certificate program?
If you have taken a comparable course at another university, upon approval of the coordinator, you may transfer up to three credits into the certificate program.
Can I get financial aid for the institute(s) and/or
certificate program?
Graduate students may apply for a Stafford Federal Student Loan through Arcadia University. Stafford loans require students to take a minimum of 6 credits per semester. Enrolling in the Teaching and Learning in Extended Learning Environments and Expanding Learning for ELs: In and Beyond the Classroom will meet those requirements. Are the certificate courses offered on-campus, or only online?
Some of the courses are offered on-campus as well as online. You are welcome to take either, however, please note that some of the online courses will be specifically designed for students in the Certificate in Extended Learning program.
How long do I have to complete the certificate?
There is no time limit for completing the certificate, but it is possible to complete all 15 credits within one calendar year.
